i have been reduced...

...to sleeping with the lights on. for some reasons this helps the shortness of breath and panic attacks that accompany waking up hourly.

i feel the same way emotionally that i normally do during the last 2-3 hours of an 11-12 hour flight. my mantra right now is: "just hold on. most of it is over. the rest will be over soon."

2 perfect summer sundays

v1: sea salt eatery at minnehaha falls, followed by a walk, followed by ice cream at izzys and running (ok FINE waddling) through the sprinkler
v2: sleeping in, boating on the mississippi, followed by an amazingly tasty dinner grilled and eaten outdoors

common denominator: awesome, amazing friends. thank you ali and robyn for being the fantastic super-aunties and friends to the churez family that you are!

why our morningtime parenting should be supervised by a 3rd party:

a + j drove me to work today. below is a brief recap of the conversation that occurred in the car:

a: mama? don't you wish you could have a volkswagen thing for your new car?
me: no!
a: why? don't you think they are SO NICE?
me: no. they are way too industrial looking.
a: what's industrial?
me: ......... (looks at j - takes a sip of coffee - rolls eyes at self for reason given)
j: it's something that's technologically mechanized for production.
me: ....... (turns a full 90 degrees to give j look of complete incredulous awe and confusion)
arman: what?
me: yeah.... what?
james: what word were we defining again?
arman: what did you say baba?
me: ...... (too busy entering the conversation in my iphone to answer anyone)

two questions for the mamas... or the scientists...

...or anyone else who is lactationally-informed.
(sorry in advance- but this is semi boob-related. so if you are squeamish about that sort of thing- don't read.)

  1. If I have plastic Avent bottles that are over 5 years old (Arman used them) - is it enough to just buy new nipples for the bottles or should i buy new bottles altogether? what with all the plastic being bad and leeching chemicals thing- is old plastic WORSE? the same? better?
  2. I should definitely buy a new set of breast pump tubes and suckers- otherwise known as a universal pumping system- right?

thank you in advance for your opinions.

on second thought.....

we went to usa baby tonight and "test drove" strollers. i've decided the quinny buzz totally kicks the bugaboo frog's butt.  AND it's cuter. don't you think?
Picture 3

we also went to honda and subaru to test drive cars... but the outcome of those visits was considerably less clear. next up this week: vw and mitsubishi. unless someone wants to give me 60k- in which case i'll decisively purchase a volvo xc90.

grrrrr......

tonight as i was putting arman to bed our neighbor shot off a firecracker in his driveway that hit the side of our house -specifically arman's window- hard enough to knock a wooden moon off the window ledge and on to arman's bed scaring the bejeeezus out of both of us. poor kiddo. he asked me like 4 times if it was going to happen again.

james got so mad that he broke the gate of our fence going out to confront the neighbor. he was pissed off enough that he scared them into going inside.

is it bad that i think that's totally hot?

i probably seem older....

story background: we are in the process of having all the old, drafty 1917 windows in our house replaced with nice new energy efficient ones so for the past two days we've had carpenters working in our house.

yesterday- arman was wearing his sailor had and talking (huge surprise. HUGE.) to one of the carpenters- dan. dan said he has a 4 year old and a 6 year old and asked arman how old he was. arman said: "5 of course!" and dan said "wow! you seem older!"

arman's reply to this was: "i probably seem older because i am a sailor."

apparently james did not quite know how many strawberries one of these boxes would hold, so we have 10 pounds of strawberries at home. which is interesting given the fact that we are planning yet another strawberry picking excursion for later in the week.

if you have any good strawberry recipes send them my way- will you?
